Use of Sky/Paper Lanterns in North Fayette Township

Single Sky Lantern

The use of paper lanterns (sometimes referred to as Sky Lanterns or Chinese Lanterns) is prohibited within the Township. In January 2018, we adopted the International Fire Code, which does not permit the release of flame lit paper lanterns under any circumstances.

Residents are always asked to use extreme caution with any open flame especially around other combustible materials and during the times of the year when trees and ground cover are brown and windy conditions exist. It takes mere seconds for a situation thought to be controlled to turn to uncontrolled and pose a hazard to life and property.

More information on open burning can be found here. We thank you in advance for your cooperation!
