Grass, Leaves, and Yard Waste

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has mandated that North Fayette Township recycle leaves and grass as part of its overall recycling program. This means that any leaf or grass waste that is picked up must be taken to an approved composting site. This mandate made it necessary for the township to make changes in the way it handles leaf and grass pick up. All leaves, grass, and garden clippings that are to be picked up by County Hauling must be placed in "craft" type biodegradable paper bags. This type of bag is available at Home Depot, Lowes, Moore's Hardware, Imperial Hardware, and Agway. Leaves or Grass put out for pick up in any other type container will not be accepted.

This is another step in the effort of saving landfill space. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental protection has good suggestions on the website called Grass Cycling it's Okay to "Let it Lay." Should you have any questions, please call the office at 412-788-4888, ext. 107 or 724-693-3107.

Leaves & Grass Pickup

County Hauling will pick up leaves and grass each week from approximately April 1 through November 15. Leaves and grass clippings need to be placed in biodegradable paper bags that do not exceed 40 pounds. No garbage, dirt or anything other than grass clippings or leaves can be placed in the bag or it will be left at the curb because it would be refused by the recycling company.

If you are already composting or disposing of leaves in some other way, you can continue to do so.

Tree Limbs

Tree limbs can be cut in lengths no greater than 4 feet and bundled with a diameter of no greater than 2 feet. Individual limbs can be no larger than 3 inches in diameter and each bundle cannot exceed 40 pounds.

Christmas Trees

Christmas trees can be collected the first 2 weeks in January.
